SMU Cox Recognizes Dallas/Fort Worth Entrepreneurs at the 15th Annual Dallas 100™ Awards

In its 15th year, the Dallas 100™ Awards, presented by the SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship, recognized the top 100 fastest growing, privately held companies in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The success of these companies indicates the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in North Texas, as these 100 companies grew average sales 226 percent from 2002 to 2004, generating more than $2.8 billion in sales in 2004 alone. In addition, the top 100 almost doubled the number of employees in the last three years. 

This year's winners illustrate the vitality of entrepreneurial endeavors in the Metroplex. In the past three years, 2004 Dallas 100™ winners generated more than $6.8 billion in sales and increased number of employees by more than 6,000. The Top 10 winners alone generated $1.5 billion during the past three years.

The top 100 companies were recognized at an awards ceremony at the Meyerson Symphony Center November 9, with keynote speaker Carl Westcott of Westcott LLC. For the second year in a row, Southwest Sanitary takes the Number One spot. Located in Carrollton, Southwest Sanitary is service-oriented company and major distributor of food service and sanitation products. With several national and local clients, Southwest Sanitary meets the specific needs of their customers, including Subway Restaurants, General Motors, and several school districts and independent businesses. Camille Cheney Fournier serves as CEO, and her brother, Bobby Cheney, is president of the 50-year-old company, founded by their parents John A. and Nancy Cheney. 

In order to qualify for the Dallas 100™, a company must be an independent, privately held corporation, proprietorship or partnership (not a subsidiary of a parent company) as of May 1, 2005; be headquartered in the Dallas area; have had sales of more than $500,000 in fiscal 2002; have had sales of not more than $65,000,000 in 2002; have a three-year sales history reflecting growth; and, have a credit report and character satisfactory to the Dallas 100™, determined at the sole discretion of the Dallas 100™.
